OSCAR NIEMEYER RESIDENCE IS THE SETTING FOR PHOTOS BY DESIGN D´SIR

An icon of almost 60 years on Lago Sul, Brasilia

A setting of great and indisputable beauty, this house designed by Niemeyer, located on the South Lake in Brasília, served as the stage for photos by Design Désir. The shoot included the "Rio" chaise, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and photographed in a residence also designed by the architect. It's a unique encounter between design and architecture, transcending space and time.

One of Desing Désir's missions is to constantly promote modernist design and architecture with initiatives that can immortalize both areas. This unique encounter between architecture and design was made possible thanks to Augusto César, the real estate broker who brokered the sale of the house and made it possible to register it. The house, which was in the process of being sold, was empty, making it the perfect location for the photos of the Design Désir pieces.

The splendor of the master's architecture, mirrored in this residential project, catalogued in the book Oscar Niemeyer Maisons by Actes Sud, has remained practically intact since its construction. The house survives almost unchanged, giving the viewer an authentic feeling of being in touch with Niemeyer's original work.
The dialog between interior and exterior is a constant in this space. Large glass walls give a glimpse of the green garden and tropical vegetation, giving the feeling of a single, uninterrupted space, which communicates continuously, passing from the private to the social area, divided into two floors.

A geometrically carved swimming pool is glimpsed from the moment you open the front door, reinforcing the idea that there are no boundaries in this house. A concrete slab on the outside runs elegantly along the side of the building, making reference to the cut-out in the pool, guaranteeing the interior protection from the heat and sunlight.

The use of noble materials, such as wood and natural stone, is present in many rooms, from the floor to the custom-made doors and cabinets. Details such as handles, sockets, taps, ceiling finishes and other elements bring unique pieces, incomparable to today's standardized designs.

Almost sixty years have separated us from the construction of this space, conceived in another era, with other uses, customs and observing other principles. But it is a great work in itself, and there is no denying that only one of the great names in modern architecture could have conceived a space like it.
