Scheurich Keramik
Founded 90 years ago in Germany, Scheurich, a glass and porcelain manufacturer, established itself on the market as a wholesaler and has reinvented itself several times over the years.
In 1928, Alois Scheurich and Fridolin Greulich founded a company called "Scheurich and Greulich" (S&G) (German for "terrifying").
S&G distributed low-cost ceramics and glassware.
The success of S&G enabled Alois Scheurich to found his own ceramics factory in Kleinheubach in 1954, starting ceramics production with the first electric tunnel kiln.
Scheurich became known for applying several glazes to a single shape. The "fat lava" volcanic texture was one of the most popular in the 1960s and 1970s, and they became one of the largest ceramics manufacturers in Germany between the 1950s and 1980s. They exported more than any other ceramics company in Germany. Some lines were produced specifically for foreign markets, such as the "Europline" and mold designs marked "foreign". The distribution of some shapes and glazes indicates that some may have been produced for specific countries.
The designer Heinz Siery was responsible for many of the pieces that Scheurich produced.
Scheurich still exists today and is a successful company with around 500 employees, developing and producing innovative products that it exports to more than 80 countries around the world.
