Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1951. The son of a painter mother and a photographer father, he studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art. In 1974 he settled in London, where he joined the Architectural Association.

He approached the world of art and culture with an interest in design and the new aesthetics of materials.

Arad's exploration of the limits and possibilities of materials, particularly metals and composites, and his radical conception of the form and structure of objects and buildings have placed him at the forefront of contemporary design and architecture.

All his products have a strong, sensual beauty.

Ron Arad has exhibited his work in the world's most prestigious galleries and art museums, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria & Albert in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMa in NY and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany.

Ron Arad has won several awards.

He has created sculptures for a variety of public spaces such as Big Blue in Canary Wharf in London (2000), Evergreen! in Roppongi Hills in Tokyo (2003), Kesher in Tel Aviv (2011) and Vortext in Seoul, South Korea (2011). Architectural projects include the foyer of the Tel Aviv Opera House (1994), the Hotel Puerta America in Madrid (2005), the Hotel Duomo in Rimini (2006), the Mediacite shopping center in Liège, Belgium (2009), and the award-winning Design Museum Holon in Israel (2010).

Among his most notable projects, in 2011 Arad opened Curtain Call at the Roundhouse London, a suspended curtain of over 5,000 silicon rods that acts as a screen for live performances, films and animation. A year later it was presented at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
