Doria Leuchten
Doria Leuchten was a German lighting and mirror manufacturer founded in 1945 by Walter Donner.
The company worked out of the Dynamit Nobel site in Fürth, known during the First World War as one of the largest private cartridge manufacturing facilities in the world. It produced small-caliber cartridges for the German army during the Second World War, before being dismantled. Three years later, it moved to Werkstraße in Stadeln.
The company produced modernist lighting for the international market and was known by various names over the years, including DORIA-Studio, as the in-house design team was called, while it is often referred to simply as Doria Leuchten or Doria Werke.
In the 1960s and 1970s, they mainly manufactured lamps made of tubes and plates of fused and pressed ICE glass, arranged in metal frames, but they also designed models made entirely of sheet metal or fabric.
Doria Leuchten's lamps are characterized by their elegant and modern design, with simple lines and shapes. The high-quality pieces were made using traditional techniques such as blowing, cutting and polishing.
During the 1960s, Doria Leuchten attracted German industrial design talents such as former Bauhaus student and metalworker Wolfgang Tümpel (1903-1978), or designer Wilhelm Braun Feldweg, who created the famous Avus, Berlin-Serie and Modell 101 lamps. Klaus Slama was also commissioned to design some models, such as the Doria Mushroom table lamp.
Founder Walter Donner repeatedly presented innovative products at the glass fair in Hanover.
From 1961 until its closure, the company received more than 30 awards, including the IF Design Awards.
The company was declared bankrupt in 1986.
Doria Leuchten lamps are renowned for their innovative design and high-quality construction. They are sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts all over the world.
