Dümler & Breiden
Founded in 1883 in Höhr-Grenzhausen, at the heart of the German ceramic tradition of the Westerwald region, Dümler & Breiden became one of Germany’s most important ceramic manufacturers. Initially renowned for producing traditional German beer steins and utilitarian stoneware pieces, the company evolved throughout the 20th century to create vases and decorative objects with a strong artistic identity.
Between the 1950s and 1970s, Dümler & Breiden gained international recognition for its modernist creations featuring vibrant glazes, bold textures, and sculptural forms, now closely associated with the iconic “Fat Lava” movement. Collections such as Domino, Polar, and Saturn became landmarks of postwar German ceramic design.
Even after production ceased in the 1990s, the brand’s creations remain highly collectible, admired for their exceptional craftsmanship, innovative glazing techniques, and timeless aesthetic that seamlessly blends art, design, and tradition.
