Eugenio Gerli (1923 - 2013) was an Italian industrial designer and architect, known for his collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Tecno and with the Italian architect and designer Osvaldo Borsani with whom he worked closely in the Research Department.
During the collaboration between Gerli and Tecno, which began in 1957, many 20th century design classics were created, including the PS142 and S142 armchairs.
Gerli himself says that in some works it is difficult to tell who had the first idea and who finished the project
He graduated in engineering in 1949 and a year later founded his own Studio of Architecture and Industrial Design, which since the 1970s has also had the support of his two sons.
While still a student, he explored materials such as resin, felt and molded plywood.
He took part in the IX Milan Triennale, with four models that concluded his studies.
With an intense professional life spanning more than six decades, Eugenio Gerli has explored various areas in his profession. He has built villas, blocks of apartments, offices, factories, banks and stores, as well as restoring historic buildings.
Gerli has completed projects for the USA, Europe, Africa, Persia, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, although the focus of his work is residential buildings in Milan and Rome.
Tecno's early furniture pieces can be found in the permanent collections of MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museo Trienalle di Milano and the Neue Sammlung in Munich.
