The dynamism of Brazilian design has been highlighted in recent years: self-production in wood, by designers who handcraft their creations in their own workshops.
The book Ricardo Graham Ferreira, o ebanista takes an intimate look at the work of one of the exponents of this generation, instigating the reader to create their own formal and affective interpretation through a set of records and testimonies from people who are part of his life. Rather than being guided chronologically or by technique, the intention is to let the eye wander, to discover what attracts and moves it. That's why it was essential for each piece to be presented in its context of creation - the workshop, so that the narrative extends between the work and its surroundings; between the inspiration and the result. A reflection of the symbiosis between body and raw material, the conjunction of different lives and cycles in an object that lasts.
The bilingual publication is a partnership between Precious Woods, a Swiss timber company whose operations in the Amazon are a benchmark for sustainable management, and Editora Olhares, which has an extensive catalog of Brazilian design.
With an introductory text and interview conducted by curator Bruno Simões, it also includes comments from the designer himself, as well as contributions from fellow designer Fernando Mendes, Stephane Glannaz, director of Precious Woods, and Maria Eduarda Carneiro da Cunha, the book's organizer and Ricardo's life and business partner.
