Bernardo grew up and began his professional life in Ipanema, at a time when the Rio neighborhood was emanating its creative manifestations worldwide. He graduated at the height of the modern period and worked with pioneering spirit and success in a variety of creative experiments. His product design ranged from furniture for the original Itamaraty Palace project in Brasilia to production aimed at popularizing access to furniture with design and quality.

As an architect, he designed dozens of residential buildings, especially in Rio de Janeiro. He dedicated himself to the architecture of international fairs, helping to build the Brazilian identity in the 1960s and 70s.
