Fifty years ago, Brazil was closed to the outside world. São Paulo had just become the largest city in the country, although it was still marked by a provincial character. That's when an avant-garde movement emerged to change the design and interiors market as we know it today. This story goes back to the central work of Attilio Baschera and Gregório Kramer.
When they met, Attilio and Gregorio were attracted to each other. Attilio was the first art director of Editora Abril and Gregorio was a businessman recently arrived from Argentina. Together, with elegance and without fanfare, they changed the conventions and behavior of society at the time. They founded Larmod, a design store conceived for Brazilians. The Larmod print was a milestone that influenced not only generations of professionals, but also the homes of Brazilians
In the 1970s, they launched seasonal collections and exported products to other countries. The duo's success made them benchmarks in design and society, fields that are intertwined in their career and work. In addition to the stores that followed Larmod, they were linked to different projects such as the design of Vogue and Casa Cor magazines; the production of shows; the organization of major events for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the careers of various design and art professionals; design, fashion, behaviour and lifestyle trends in Brazilian society.
For the first time, Attilio and Gregório have come together in a series of conversations to recap the stories they have lived and heard over the last five decades. The interviewer and author of the book is architect and design researcher Rica Oliveira Lima, who completed his master's degree on the duo.
